THE RIGHT TO FIGHT BACK PART 2

There has been something like a broken record/expressions that have been circulating in the public, (of course, in a vast array/network of information that's around), that is meant to scare/cut the Muslims away from Allah and His Prophet. You can recall the cartoon issue, the burning of the Qur'an issue, the flushing of the copies of the Qur'an in the toilets. All of this imagery accompanies/comes with a presentation that Muslims want to, (and this is what you will/have been hearing, these are their words) impose Shari'ah law. For the past several years this expression has come into vogue. It's an oft repeated expression that you hear when you're listening to the radio/turn on your TV/read the newspaper. They don't tire of saying "Muslims want to impose Shari'ah law." Of course, we know Muslims don't impose anything. What is to be done is done by the conviction/confidence/cooperation of people- that's how things are done. So in this package of distorting Islam we have a fall-out. We have people, particularly Muslims, who get caught up in these rhetoric/fabrications so when they come and read the Qur'an they either read it by cancelling their minds i.e. they don't want to think about what Allah is saying or they read it to understand the way their interests/egos dictate or they want to understand the Qur'an through- and this the lowest character of inferiority- what the enemies of the Qur'an, Allah and His Prophet explain the Qur'an to be. (For) the best examples/demonstrations of what we just said we take some ayaat from the Qur'an in Surah Al Baqarah. OK- this is an ayah. It's an ayah that exists in hundreds of millions of Qur'ans in homes/Masajid everywhere in the world. What does the ayah say? Summon your mind to this ayah. Allah says

And fight/wage war on a course to Allah against those who are waging war against you… (Surah Al Baqarah verse 190)

Why do we have Muslim mentalities/psychologies unable to come together and understand these clear meanings? Brothers and sisters- there are ayaat in the Qur'an that challenge the mind/the pooling of all information available to us and there are other ayaat that are crystal clear. They are very simple to understand. This is an ayah that is very simple to understand.

And you go to war on a course to Allah against those who have gone to war against you… (Surah Al Baqarah verse 190)

What's hard to understand about this? Where's the difficulty? The words/sentence is clear. If we understand this and it doesn't take college degrees to understand this ayah… OK- here Allah orders us

… to carry arms/duel with those who carry arms against us… (Surah Al Baqarah verse 190)

the question is, (and we ask you with the heart/mind that you have): "is there anyone in the world who is waging war against the Muslims?" That's all you need to know. If there is no one in the world who is waging war against the Muslims then we have no business waging war against them by the meanings of this ayah. Remember, in the Qur'an there are many other ayaat but for beginners, by understanding this ayah- if no one is dropping bombs on Muslims/has military bases in Muslim countries/is occupying Islamic lands/is spilling the blood of Muslims in the world then why should Muslims be thinking about fighting? It would be a peaceful world of coexistence and maybe total harmony; but that is not a world that we are familiar with. It happens to be that there is a war effort/strategies along with war victims and war crimes. So what do we do? We tell people "come and fight us?!" Obviously not! But the facts on the ground and the real world (says there are) to the tone of budgets in the trillions of dollars and militaries in the millions of personnel who have picked a war with the Muslims. So what do we do? (Do) we act one our own- astaghfirullah- and say "Oh Allah: we need not Your guidance?! We will deal with this the way we want to?! We want to surrender to the enemy?! We'll do that! We don't want to think about what You're telling us!? Or, if we want to fight the enemy we are going to fight him the way we perceive the fight to be and we need not Your instructions?!" Is that how we are expected to behave? Or being that these being the bloody facts of life, we tune in to what Allah says to conditions like this? This is an ayah that speaks to these types of conditions. (Does) anyone feel apologetic about this? (Does) anyone have any problem with this? Should Muslims be crawling, begging and apologising because of this ayah? Anyone in their common sense would submit that that's the right thing to do. If a person comes to your home, knocks down your door, sprays your living room with bullets (and) kills whoever he wants to- what do you do? What are you expected to do? Submit? So what begs a definition over here- thinking Muslims- are those who are waging war against you. Is it very hard in today's world to pin point those who are waging war against the Muslims in the world? Is that a difficult task? If we take a step further in this ayah, Allah says

… and don't aggress upon others… (Surah Al Baqarah verse 190)

It's a character of Muslims. We don't go around the world picking wars/planting our military bases here-and-there/stealing other people's natural resources/taking advantage of cheap labour in the Southern Hemisphere/Africa/South America/Asia- we don't do any of that; but there are other people who are doing it and they do it with their militaries first! They don't go in and sit down with the Muslims and have a cup of tea and say "we have this plan to develop your country and we want you to participate in this development which will be to the benefit of your future and your future generations." That's not the way it is done. They go in there with their militaries first, then they bring a class of inferior rulers who report to them and they pursue their materialistic objectives and if in the course of that hundreds of thousands of millions of people are going to die an immediate/slow death- that doesn't bother them a bit. So these words of the Qur'an are a challenge at the level and with the force and the magnitude of the hostilities that the Muslims are in. Have you ever heard these people who speak around in the TV/newspapers and all of these large mouths say that the Muslim Holy book/the Qur'an actually has a sentence in it that says

… don't be the aggressors… (Surah Al Baqarah verse 190)

Allahu a'lam but we can say from a humble human experience we've never heard it and this is a person who's all-ears-and-eyes concerning what is said/expressed/presented about Islam. They never say there's an ayah/section/sentence in the Qur'an that Allah says/tells/orders the Muslims and commands them

… don't aggress upon others; verily Allah does not favour aggressors. (Surah Al Baqarah verse 190)

Allah is telling us not to aggress. Then He is drawing a general rule to that applicable to us and the others i.e.

… He doesn't like/favour and He is not on the side of aggressors. (Surah Al Baqarah verse 190)

That is another sentence in the Qur'an you will never hear coming out of the bloody mouth-pieces that want to tarnish/tear the image of Islam. When war becomes the social behaviour of Muslims at times of imposed wars/aggression/invasions/occupations, (all of them a fact of our contemporary/current existence/life), Allah says when you have these types of enemies who break in into your homelands/homes, break up your families, kill you at will- what do you do? You don't respond to a murderer with lectures! A person with a machine gun in his hand is not interested in lectures! A military that has its bases in the Islamic territories is not interested in Scholars. There's a language they understand i.e. the language of force and because they themselves in the aggressive character/mode have taken the language of force to its killing level then the reciprocal language they will understand is counter force at the killing level.

You kill them where you find them… (Surah Al Baqarah verse 191)

And being that they are the aggressors we find them in our own countries/territories.

… and you expel them from the land that they expelled you from… (Surah Al Baqarah verse 191)

This is a definition of who they are. They go into our lands/countries and they begin moving populations. They cause us to become refugees/displaced. Some of you need a little current information. OK- let us take one example. The US military along with its allies went into Iraq and bombed the day-lights out of that country and tried to push it back into the stone-age and so far, (in the course of about eight years or so), what has been done to a part of the overall Muslim world? Iraq is a small piece of the Muslim world- what have they done there? They have given us the following result… The war theatre is defined here and their aggression has brought in the details of this definition. They go into our lands along with their agents and their imposed ruling class and they use all the military might that they have and they kill. The numbers here are murky but given the nature of media warfare taking all the numbers that are involved in the number of casualties in Iraq we think it would be fair to say, (this is from a conservative side), that there are at least one million Iraqis just in the past eight years who have been killed. That means in Iraq there are one million widows i.e. women who don't have husbands. Many/all of them having families in some form or the other. The average Iraqi family is about five individuals, so killing one million fathers/husbands has left the Iraqi society with five million orphans.

… you expel them from the same area that they expelled you from… (Surah Al Baqarah verse 191)

How did this expelling process unfold in Iraq? Inside Iraq there are 1,2000,000 people who have been dislocated inside their own country. They used to live in one city now they're in another city. They used to live in one village now they live in another village far away. In other words we have 1,200,000 Iraqis who are no longer living in their homes but they are still living in their country. Because of aggression/invasion/occupation there are 1,800,000 Iraqis who have left the country altogether. They are refugees outside of Iraq. This is an Iraqi population that is around 32 million. This makes the Math very easy- we live in the United States. We have a census now the final count we will know about at the end of the year but it's going to be in the area of 320-330 million Americans living in the United States which gives us a very simple Math formula i.e. a multiplication by ten. The population in Iraq is 32-33 million (and) the population in the United States is 320-330 million; so if we have one million Iraqis who were killed what would that mean in a society like the United States? That's the equivalent of ten million Americans being killed. What would that mean as far as the widows there are one million Iraqi widows; it's like the American society having ten million American women widows. The Iraqi society has five million orphans, it's like the American society having fifty million orphans. Just digest this information step-by-step. 1,200,000 Iraqis where displaced inside the country that's like twelve million Americans being forced out of their homes/going from one State to the next. Then you have 1,800,000 Iraqis who are forced outside of their own country/motherland that's like eighteen million Americans who were forced outside of the United States. People living in our world today listen to numbers- OK- bring these numbers to them. The facts speaks for themselves. This is what you have done. If you bring the proportionality from Iraq into the United States you have tens of millions of households that have been destructed because of an invasion/occupation/aggression that still is in progress. That's not to speak about the years leading up to all of this and the involvement of these aggressors/occupiers in the years that led up to this war and the consequence that we suffer from concerning this war. This is only one area in the Muslim world. There are many other areas: Afghanistan/Palestine, (just to name a couple of others), in which we have similar scenarios that have been weighing upon our conscience for all of these years. Then these large mouths who speak their ignorance/vile against Islam and the Muslims come and take this ayah in Surah Al Maa'idah to give it their own slant/spin and they say "look- Muslims cannot be friends of Jews/Christians." We've spoken about this previously and clarified and we repeat that the ayah is not saying that Muslims cannot be friends of Christians/Jews, but if you are listening to the adversaries that is the only impression you get. An ayah in the Qur'an in the same Surah means

… the food and the other gender of those who have been vouchsafed scripture before us are halaal/allowable… (Surah Al Maa'idah verse 5)

If we were to paraphrase this ayah in the language that we all understand, Allah is saying

… Muslims and Christians and Jews are allowed to share their kitchen/table-spread and their bedroom/bed… (Surah Al Maa'idah verse 5)

What do you want more than that? How closer can human beings become in sharing these most intimate moments of life and you turn around and say "Muslims cannot be friends of Jews/Christians?!" But this is the hostility that we have.

In another ayah in Surah Al Baqarah

… and whoever aggresses against you, you aggress against them in a like wise manner… (Surah Al Baqarah verse 194)

Meaning if we were thinking at the level of this Qur'an,

… if we have aggressors who are occupying our land the anecdote to that is to occupy their lands… (Surah Al Baqarah verse 194)

Give them a taste of their own medicine, (as it were). If they are putting military bases in our land we put military bases in their lands and ask them "how do you like that?" There's no contradiction here. Let's say when a Muslim breaks bread with a Yahudi/Nasrani or a Muslim is married to a Yahudiyah/Nasraniyah who observes scripture, it is a matter of reinforcement; there's no conflict; but when Muslims go out and break bread, we don't share it with Emperors. We don't share the table-spread with Dictators. We don't go to bed with oppressors/despots. They are two different types of people. But because we have been laxed at understanding what Allah is telling us and the enemies of Allah and His Prophet have been vigilant in pursuing their hostility towards us they've made inroads so much inside of our own psychologies/selves that many of us want to submit to the status quo. Allah speaks about this group of people in the same ayah in Surah Al Maa'idah and there after

… these defeated/inferior Muslims say "we're afraid that things are doing to turn against us"… (Surah Al Maa'idah verse 51)

They don't listen to themselves…

… these defeated/inferior Muslims say "if we are going to follow Allah and His Prophet and what they are telling us and take issue with these aggressors/militaries/dictators then we're afraid that life/the tables/formulas are going to be turned against us"… (Surah Al Maa'idah verse 51)

That's how they have been defeated so much that the only thing left for them to say is "we don't stand a chance." Remember when people say this they are separated from Allah. No one in the presence of Allah says "I am afraid that these enemies are going to do me in. I'm afraid that they will be able to turn my life into a misery." This only comes from individuals who are living as aliens to Allah and His Prophet; a condition that no Muslim who has taqwa will ever experience.

Brothers and sisters, committed Muslims…

We, the Muslims, of today's world are far away from where we are supposed to be. We have on our watch/happening in our world, (this is not history/hypothesis; this is the fact/truth), the ruling class in Arabia that has been signing contracts when we total them up that amount to $123billion just in the past year. They want to buy weapons to the tune of the $123 billion because they were scared by the Zionist/Imperialists of an Islamic neighbour. This tell us many things. Among the many things it tells us is (that) these people don't understand their own neighbours. There's a hadith and there quotes in the Seerah/Sunnah about the Prophet speaking about his own neighbour. The Prophet spoke about the neighbour so much that the people listening to him said the way he is speaking we think the Prophet is going to make the neighbour a share in our inheritance meaning the neighbour has become part of your own family. If you die part of your inheritance is going to go to your neighbour. The Prophet never said anything like that but the way he spoke about the neighbour had those who were listening under the impression that the neighbours have become family. That's a Prophetic description of a neighbour but here we have neighbours, (if we want to extend the simple meaning of individual/personal neighbours to neighbours as peoples/populations), we have the people/population of Arabia in the form of its ruling classes that don't understand their neighbour in Islamic Iran. If they want information they can't even attain the information themselves. They go to the Imperialists/Zionists and they say "tell us what are these people up to in Iran?" as if these people in Iran don't belong to the same Deen/Prophet/Qibla/Book! Where are they living? In casinos!? In brothels?! This is another meaning of a dysfunctional Makkah. Makkah is not a place where you come and have peoples hearts/minds meet as it's supposed to be. When we go there we gain no further understanding of each other. So when Makkah is no longer a defining city these rulers there come to Washington and indirectly to Tel Aviv and they say "OK- tell us what are they up to? A nuclear program going on there is what you tell us?! How shall we defend ourselves?!" "Sign on the dotted line" is how you defend yourself and that is what they have been doing. In the 1980's the same ruling class/dynasty signed on the dotted line with the British. They purchased between $70-80 billion of an air defence system- the Tornado Jet if you recall that. What happened? What did it do? They spent $80 billion on the system- forget about spare parts/maintenance after that, but what did it do? Wars have been periodically breaking out all around that area- where are their arms? So do we have to go through all of this again? We will have to go through all of this again and again and again as long as we don't understand Allah and His Prophet.

This khutbah was presented by Imam Mohamed Asi on the occasion of Jum'ah on 8 October 2010 on the sidewalk of Embassy Road in Washington D.C. The Imam previously led the daily and Jum'ah prayers inside the Masjid. His speeches were revolutionary and thought provoking, and eventually irritated and threatened the Middle-East Ambassadors who control the Masjid. Finally, the Imam, his family, and other Muslims faithful to the course of Islam were forced out, into the streets. This khutbah originates from the sidewalk across the street from the Islamic Center, currently under seige.
