[shia_strength] Amir al-Mu’minin (AS) summoning ‘Asim ibn Ziyad

Subject: Amir al-Mu'minin (AS) summoning 'Asim ibn Ziyad

Amir al-Mu'minin (AS) summoning 'Asim ibn Ziyad
Vol.1 chapter 106, hadith 3 AL-KAFI; SHAIKH MOHAMMED BIN YAQOOB BIN ISHQ KULAINI

Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from Salih ibn abu Hammad and a number of our people has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad and others through different chains of narrators.

The Hadith is about the protest of Amir al-Mu'minin (AS) against 'Asim ibn Ziyad who had confined himself in a gown away from the people.

His brother, al-Rabi' ibn Ziyad complained before Amir al-Mu'minin (AS) complained that his 'Asim's family had become depressed and his sons had been sadden because of his behavior.

Amir al-Mu'minin (AS) had summoned 'Asim ibn Ziyad and was brought before him. When Amir al-Mu'minin (AS) saw him he frowned at him and said,

"Why did you not feel ashamed before your wife?
Why did you not show kindness to your sons?
Do you think Allah had made good things lawful to and then He would dislike if you would use them?
You are less significant to Allah than such a thing.
Is it not Allah Who has said,
"He spread out the earth for the people (55:10).
There exists all kinds of fruits, palm-trees with sheathed blossoms, (55:11)
grain with its husk and aromatic herbs (55:12).
Is it not Allah Who has said,
"He has made the two oceans meet each other, (55:19)
but has created a barrier between them so that they will not merge totally (55:20).
(Jinn and mankind) - which of the favors of your Lord do you then deny? (55:21).
From the two oceans comes pearls and coral." (55:22)

I swear by Allah, the use of the bounties of Allah in deeds is more preferred to Him than then using in words. Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most gracious, has said, "...and proclaim the bounties of your Lord." (93:11)

'Asim said, "O Amir al-Mu'minin (AS), "Why have you confined yourself to tasteless food and harsh garments?"

He said, "How inconsiderate of you! Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most gracious, has made obligatory for the Imams of justice to measure themselves with the people of lowest standard of living so that the poors' poverty would not plunge him in despair."

'Asim then abandoned the gown and begun to live an normal life."

''O God,
carry us in the ships of Thy deliverance,
give us to enjoy the pleasure of whispered prayer to Thee,
make us drink at the pools of Thy love,
let us taste the sweetness of Thy affection and nearness,
allow us to struggle in Thee,

[shia_strength] The Unparallel Love of the Prophet (saww)

The Unparallel Love of the Prophet

bismillah1.gif

The crowd was growing in size by the minute. They were beating drums, singing, dancing, and shouting in joy. Pagan Makkah was about to kill Khubaib bin Adi Ansari (ra), who had been captured through a sinister and treacherous plot, then sold in the slave market so the buyers could exact their vengeance.

It started when some tribesmen from Uthul and Qara went to Madinah and requested the Prophet (saww), to send some teachers with them who could educate their fellow tribesmen about Islam. The request was granted and about ten Companions were sent with them. When the group reached Raji', two hundred armed men were lying in wait for them. Khubaib (ra) and Zaid bin Adathna (ra), were captured alive, while the others were martyred.

Then they were sold in exchange for a hundred heads of camel. Both had fought in the battle of Badr and their swords had killed some pagan soldiers. Now the relatives of those killed in war wanted to get even. Of course, Arab traditions did not allow revenge for war like this. But their opponents were Muslims. Then, as now, the pagan world was ready to violate its own rules and traditions when the victims were Muslims.

While facing death, Khubaib (ra), said a poem that has been recorded by history. It includes these lines: "They say if I renounce Islam, my life will be spared. But it is better to die with belief than to live with unbelief."

At the last minute, the pagans asked him: "Don't you wish that you were spared and Muhammad (saww) got this punishment? Would not you like that you were resting comfortably in your home, while he was killed in your place?"

From the man who was about to die because he had accepted the Message brought by Prophet Muhammad (saww), came this reply: "By Allah, I cannot even imagine that a thorn should prick the foot of Muhammad (saww), while I rest in my home."

Abu Sufyan, an unbeliever at the time, remarked to his associates: "See, the love of the companions for Muhammad (saww) is unparalleled and unprecedented."

At another time, a similar observation was made by another Quraish leader Urwah ibn Mas'ud al Thaqafi. "I have seen Ceasar and Chosroes in their pomp, but never have I seen a man honored, as Muhammad (saww) is honored by his comrades."

The biographies of the Companions are full of stories that show their extra-ordinary love and devotion for the Prophet (saww). The Qur'an itself attests to this. "The Prophet is closer to the believers than their own selves." [Al-Ahzab 33:6]. It is a statement of fact as well as a command.

The following two ahadith, from among the many on the subject, clarify this point further. Prophet Muhammad (saww) said: "None of you can be a believer unless he loves me more than his parents, his children, and all the people."

He also said: "There are three signs that indicate that a person has tasted the sweetness of faith.

1)     That he loves Allah and His Prophet more than anything else.

2)     He loves everyone solely for the sake of Allah.

3)     After accepting Islam he hates going back to unbelief as much as he hates going into the fire."

It has to be so, because our relationship to the Prophet (saww), is at the core of our entire religion. He is human, not Divine, but he is our connection to the Deity. He relays to us the Word of Allah and he explains what the Word means. He sets a personal example that we look at not just for admiration but emulation. Our relationship to him is legal as well as personal; moral as well as spiritual; intellectual as well as emotional. Allah chose him to guide us, educate us, inspire us, and purify us --- and we remain indebted forever!

This not only establishes a relationship between a believer and the Prophet (saww), it also establishes the relationship among the believers, making them one unit because of --- in addition to their common faith --- their common love for the Prophet (saww). Together these facts explain a Muslim's sensitivity to the honor of the Prophet (saww).

To begin with, we must remember that the honor of everyone is important. As the hadith reminds us: "If a believer does not come to the help of another believer whose honor and dignity are under attack, then Allah will also not help him when he is most in need of Allah's help. And a believer who does come to the help of another believer whose honor and dignity are under attack, then Allah will also help him when he is most in need of Allah's help."

If a Muslim is not supposed to be indifferent when the honor of another ordinary Muslim is under attack, how in the world can anyone expect him or her to be indifferent when the honor and dignity of the Prophet (saww) is under attack?

As has been noted by someone else, a civilization in which nothing is sacred may have difficulty in understanding the values of a civilization in which sacred is all that counts. But if it cannot understand the logic, because of its own blinders, it will have to come to terms with the facts on the ground: Muslims treat their Prophet (saww), and all the Prophets (as), with utmost respect and they simply cannot tolerate any willful insult and disrespect. To compromise on this issue would tantamount to compromising one's faith. And no one has a right to demand that. The blasphemy laws in Muslim countries like the one in Pakistan, are not only based on solid and agreed upon juristic grounds, they express a fundamental value of the Muslim civilization. We need not offer any apologies for that just because the forces of profanity seem to be powerful.

Some think that the Prophet (saww), forgave his worst enemies and never took revenge for himself. So any law that prescribed punishment for assaulting the honor of the Prophet (saww), is clearly against his Sunnah. What the prophetic example teaches is that we should also be willing to forgive those who have committed offenses against us, personally. But we know of Ka'ab bin Ashraf who used to abuse the Prophet (saww), and instigated others to do so. Prophet (saww) ordered Mohammed ibn Salma to execute Ka'ab.

There are not many but history records that whenever anyone tried to abuse the person of the Prophet (saww), he was meted with the same punishment. As the Persian poet said, "May take liberty with God, Be careful with Muhammad (saww)."

[shia_strength] Won't Wear Hijab!

Why She Won't Wear Hijab!
A Discussion by A.Q. Alidost

A conversation for Muslim sisters:

"I'm so tired."

"Tired of what?"

"Of all these people judging me."

"Who judged you?"

"Like that woman, every time I sit with her, she tells me to wear hijab."

"Oh, hijab and music! The mother of all topics!"

"Yeah! I listen to music without hijab... haha!"

"Maybe she was just giving you advice."

"I don't need her advice. I know my religion. Can't she mind her own business?"

"Maybe you misunderstood. She was just being nice."

"Keeping out of my business, that would be nice..."

"But it's her duty to encourage you do to good."

"Trust me. That was no encouragement. And what do you mean 'good'?"

"Well, wearing hijab, that would be a good thing to do."

"Says who?"

"It's in the Quran, isn't it?"

"Yes. She did quote me something."

"She said Surah Nur, and other places of the Quran."

"Yes, but it's not a big sin anyway. Helping people and praying is more important."

"True. But big things start with small things."

"That's a good point, but what you wear is not important. What's important is to have a good healthy heart."

"What you wear is not important?"

"That's what I said."

"Then why do you spend an hour every morning fixing up?"

"What do you mean?"

"You spend money on cosmetics, not to mention all the time you spend on fixing your hair and low-carb dieting."

"So?"

"So, your appearance IS important."

"No. I said wearing hijab is not an important thing in religion."

"If it's not an important thing in religion, why is it mentioned in the Noble Quran?"

"You know I can't follow all that's in Quran."

"You mean God tells you something to do, you disobey and then it's OK?"

"Yes. God is forgiving."

"God is forgiving to those who repent and do not repeat their mistakes."

"Says who?"

"Says the same book that tells you to cover."

"But I don't like hijab, it limits my freedom."

"But the lotions, lipsticks, mascara and other cosmetics set you free?!

What's your definition of freedom anyway?"

"Freedom is in doing whatever you like to do."

"No. Freedom is in doing the right thing, not in doing whatever we wish to do."

"Look! I've seen so many people who don't wear hijab and are nice people, and so many who wear hijab and are bad people."

"So what? There are people who are nice to you but are alcoholic. Should we all be alcoholics? You made a stupid point."

"I don't want to be an extremist or a fanatic. I'm OK the way I am without hijab."

"Then you are a secular fanatic. An extremist in disobeying God."

"You don't get it, if I wear hijab, who would marry me?!"

"So all these people with hijab never get married?!"

"Okay! What if I get married and my husband doesn't like it? And wants me to remove it?"

"What if your husband wants you to go out with him on a bank robbery?!"

"That's irrelevant, bank robbery is a crime."

"Disobeying your Creator is not a crime?"

"But then who would hire me?"

"A company that respects people for who they are."

"Not after 9-11"

Yes. After 9-11. Don't you know about Hanan who just got into med school?

And the other one, what was her name, the girl who always wore a white hijab... ummm..."

"Yasmin?"

"Yes. Yasmin. She just finished her MBA and is now interning for GE."

"Why do you reduce religion to a piece of cloth anyway?"

"Why do you reduce womanhood to high heals and lipstick colors?"

"You didn't answer my question."

"In fact, I did. Hijab is not just a piece of cloth. It is obeying God in a difficult environment. It is courage, faith in action, and true
womanhood.

But your short sleeves, tight pants..."

"That's called 'fashion', you live in a cave or something? First of all, hijab was founded by men who wanted to control women."

"Really? I did not know men could control women by hijab."

"Yes. That's what it is."

"What about the women who fight their husbands to wear hijab? And women in France who are forced to remove their hijab by men?

What do you say about that?"

"Well, that's different."

"What difference? The woman who asked you to wear hijab... she was a woman, right?"

"Right, but..."

"But fashions that are designed and promoted by male-dominated corporations, set you free? Men have no control on exposing women

and using them as a commodity?! Give me a break!"

"Wait, let me finish, I was saying..."

"Saying what? You think that men control women by hijab?"

"Yes."

"Specifically how?"

"By telling women how and what to wear, dummy!"

"Doesn't TV, magazines and movies tell you what to wear, and how to be 'attractive'?"

"Of course, it's fashion."

"Isn't that control? Pressuring you to wear what they want you to wear?"

[Silence]

"Not just controlling you, but also controlling the market."

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, you are told to look skinny and anorexic like that woman on the cover of the magazine, by men who design those magazines and sell those products."

"I don't get it. What does hijab have to do with products."

"It has everything to do with that. Don't you see? Hijab is a threat to consumerism, women who spend billions of dollars to look skinny
and live by standards of fashion designed by men... and then here is Islam, saying trash all that nonsense and focus on your soul, not on
your looks, and do not worry what men think of your looks."

"Like I don't have to buy hijab? Isn't hijab a product?"

"Yes, it is. It is a product that sets you free from male-dominated consumerism."

"Stop lecturing me! I WILL NOT WEAR HIJAB!

It is awkward, outdated, and totally not suitable for this society... Moreover, I am only 20 and too young to wear hijab!"

"Fine. Say that to your Lord, when you face Him on Judgment Day."

"Fine."

"Fine."

[Silence]

"Shut up and I don't want to hear more about hijab niqab schmijab Punjab!"

[Silence]

She stared at the mirror, tired of arguing with herself all this time.

Successful enough, she managed to shut the voices in her head, with her own opinions triumphant in victory on the matter, and a final
modern decision accepted by the society - but rejected by the Faith:

"Yes!" - to curls on the hair - "No!" - to hijab!

"And he (/she) is indeed a failure who corrupts it [the soul]!" [Noble Quran 91:10]

Subhana'Allah!!!

"Nay! You prefer the life of this world; While the hereafter is better and more lasting." [Noble Quran 87:16-17]

"You are the best community (Ummah) raised up for (the benefit of) humanity; enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong and
believing in Allah." [Noble Quran 3:110]

Living The Quran
Personal Effort
Al Isra (The Night Journey) - Chapter 17: Verse 30

"Surely your Lord God enlarges provision for whom He wills, and straitens it (for whom He wills). Indeed He is fully aware of His servants and sees them well."

It is not poverty or richness itself which is good; rather, it is the state of mind which has disciplined (and triumphed over) the carnal life. The surest way for a person to please God, therefore, is to understand that whatever God gives is given in order to perfect that person in the best way. Whatever people's circumstances, they should strive to fulfill their duties toward the Creator and the created.

Like everything else, provision for each person has been pre-determined by God, and no one can obtain more than the provision that has been determined for them, nor can anybody die without having consumed their provision. Every living being's basic provision - the least amount of provision sufficient for its survival - is guaranteed by God, provided that being depends on Him in all respects. The procurement of any extra provision that will be needed because of certain conditions, like habits, depends on personal effort.

God does not forbid working or exerting effort, nor does He want His servants to be content with their basic provision. Rather, He encourages the making of an effort and wills that His servants should earn in lawful ways to spend in God's cause for the cause of Islam, and for the good of people. One who earns lawfully, who is thankful, and who helps others is much better in sight of God than one who is content with the basic provisions. What God forbids is greed, earning in unlawful ways, pursuing one's own interests only, hoarding wealth, miserliness, and not helping the needy. He also forbids taking the worldly life as the goal for working and earning.

Understanding the Prophet's Life
Traveling Alone

Ibn Abbas narrated that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said, "A woman may not travel except a mahram is accompanying her." [Agreed Upon]

The reason for the prohibition is fear for the woman traveling alone without husband or mahram at a time when traveling was by camel or mule or donkey, and she was often crossing through desert or barren terrains empty of human settlements or living creatures. Even if, during this kind of journey, the woman did not suffer mischief to herself, she suffered it in her reputation.

But when the conditions change - as in our time - when travel is by airplane or train carrying a hundred or more passengers, then there is not much room to fear for a woman traveling alone. One does not consider this acting in opposition to the hadith. Rather, this position is confirmed by the hadith of Adi ibn Hatim, according to al-Bukhari: "[The time] is all but [here when] when a woman will leave from Hira heading for the House (i.e. the Kaba), [with] no husband accompanying her." This hadith comes in the context of praising the advent of Islam and the rising of its light, and as a token of its providing safety in the land. It demonstrates the permissibility of a woman traveling alone. Ibn Hazm proceeded in accordance with this view.

It is no surprise that we find some of the imams permitting the woman to do hajj without a mahram or husband accompanying her, if she was with trustworthy women, or in trusted company. That is how Aisha did the hajj and tawaf, as one of the 'mothers of the believers' during the rule of Umar. There was not with them a single mahram; rather, Uthman ibn Affan and Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf accompanied them. It is so reported in Sahih al-Bukhari.

Some people say: A single trustworthy woman is enough as a traveling companion. Others say: She may travel alone if the road is safe. The followers of the Shafii school have pronounced this view correct for travelling for hajj and umrah. Other Shafiis include any journey in this permission, not just for pilgrimage.

Blindspot!
Elite and Commonalty

All immorality and disturbances in human social life proceed from two sources, from these two attitudes:

The first: Once my stomach is full, what do I care if others die of hunger?

The second: You work and I will eat.

The behaviour that perpetuates these two attitudes is the prevalence of usury or interest on the one hand and the abandonment of the Zakah on the other. The sole remedy for these two awful diseases can only be provided through implementing the Zakah as a universal principle and duty, and banning interest. The Zakah is an essential pillar, not only for individuals and particular communities, but for all of humankind, if they are to live a happy life. Humankind are usually divided into two classes; the elite and the commonalty. Only the obligation of the Zakah can arouse compassion and generosity in the elite towards the commonalty and respect in the commonalty towards the elite. In the absence of the Zakah, what will come to the commonalty from the elite is oppression and cruelty, and what will rise from the commonalty towards the elite is rancour and rebellion. That will give rise to a constant struggle and a constant opposition between the two classes, resulting finally in the confrontation of labour and capital.

[shia_strength] Shaikh Muhammad bin Haadee's Defense of Allaamah Ubaid from Shaikh Yahyah's Refutations

A Quick Translation:

"Q: Our Shaikh, another question [for you].

Shaikh Muhammad bin Haadee: Yes.

Q: Is it permissible to spread the likes of this speech - we hope for a brief answer O Shaikh - so is it permissible to spread the likes of this speech: "Shaikh Ubaid is the Sabt of the new hizbiyyah - meaning the truth has been made clear to him regarding the fitnah of Abdur-Rahmaan al-'Adanee. That fatwa is not to accepted from him (i.e. Shaikh Ubaid), and that Shaikh Ubaid permits free-mixing, democratic elections, [viewing] television - with the utilisation of the 'evidence' that that this speech [against Shaikh Ubaid] has eminated from a scholar Shaikh Yahyah, may Allaah preserve him - and that this this on an internet website and this has become widespread and well-circulated and there has not come from the scholars a refutation [of these allegations]?

Shaikh Muhammad bin Haadee: We do not know of this speech - this speech [attacking Shaikh Ubaid] is false! Shaikh Ubaid is from the best of the Scholars and from the Shaikhs of the Sunnah, from the best of the Shaikhs of the Sunnah and we know nothing about him except that he is upon the Sunnah. And everyone of us can err and be correct [from time to time]. However this speech is not permitted regarding Shaikh Ubaid - rather is sheer falsehood, falsehood, this speech is false! And this is even if Yahyah has spoken with it, it is falsehood. What Shaikh Yahyah has said, we are not in agreement with it - it is false speech!

Yahyah is our brother but the truth is more beloved to us than him. So this speech [of his] is falsehood. We do not know anything of Shaikh Ubaid except that he is a Scholar ('Aalim) from the Ulamaa of the Sunnah, and a caller to the Sunnah, one who warns against hizbiyyah, and one who flees from it and one who stands and faces the its people [in battle]. So we seek refuge in Allaah from falsehood. However a person may say something in anger that which he may not say whilst pleased so the speech of a person is not accepted unless it is in agreement with the evidence.

Q: May Allaah bless you.

Shaikh Muhammad bin Haadee: This speech, we do not know of it, this speech is false. And that which we know from Shaikh Ubaid is that he is from the distinguished of people of the Sunnah and from the Scholars of the Sunnah, and from the callers to the Sunnah, one who stands up for the Sunnah, in defense of it - and one who wages war upon innovations and its people and one who warns against innovations. He is from the well-known Scholars and the well-known Shaikhs in this arena.

Q: May Allaah bless you O Shaikh!

Shaikh Muhammad bin Haadee: May Allaah bless you.

Wealth, Success and Love!

A woman came out of her house and saw 3 old men with long
white beards sitting in her front yard. She did not recognize
them. She said "I don't think I know you, but you must be hungry.
Please come in and have something to eat."
"Is the man of the house home?", they asked.
"No", she replied. "He's out."
"Then we cannot come in", they replied.
In the evening when her husband came home, she told him what had happened.
"Go tell them I am home and invite them in!"
The woman went out and invited the men in"
"We do not go into a House together," they replied.
"Why is that?" she asked.
One of the old men explained: "His name is Wealth," he said pointing to
one of his friends, and said pointing to another one, "He is Success,
and I am Love." Then he added, "Now go in and discuss with your husband
which one of us you want in your home."
The woman went in and told her husband what was said. Her husband was
overjoyed. "How nice!!", he said. "Since that is the case, let us invite
Wealth. Let him come and fill our home with wealth!"
His wife disagreed. "My dear, why don't we invite Success?"
Their daughter-in-law was listening from the other corner of the house.
She jumped in with her own suggestion: "Would it not be better to invite
Love? Our home will then be filled with love!"
"Let us heed our daughter-in-law's advice," said the husband to his wife.
"Go out and invite Love to be our guest."
The woman went out and asked the 3 old men, "Which one of you is Love?
Please come in and be our guest."
Love got up and started walking toward the house. The other 2 also got
up and followed him.
Surprised, the lady asked Wealth and Success: "I only invited Love,
Why are you coming in?"
The old men replied together: "If you had invited Wealth or Success,
the other two of us would've stayed out, but since you invited Love,
wherever He goes, we go with him. Wherever there is Love, there is
also Wealth and Success!!!!!!"
