Q & A on Beard

Question: Is it permissible to have a long beard?
Answer: It is better that the length of beard does not exceed the width of a fist.

Question: Some men shave their beard and leave some hair on the chin alone.
Is this sufficient according shariah?
Answer: French-cut beard is not sufficient as an obligatory precaution.

Question: Is it permissible to shave beard, if one is faced with an unavoidable
or a difficult situation?
Answer: A Muslim is allowed to shave his beard, if he is compelled to do so or
if he is forced to shave it for medical reasons, etc. It also allowed if he fears
harm to his life by not shaving or if growing the beard would put him in difficulty
(for example, if it becomes a cause of ridicule and humiliation that is not normally
tolerable by a Muslim).

Question: Fa person commits harãm by shaving his beard by razor baled on
day one, is it permissible for him to do the same on the second, the third,
the fourth day and so on?
Answer: It is compulsory to refrain from it as a measure of precaution.

Question: Is it permissible to shave the two sides of the face and leave the
hair on the chin?
Answer: Shaving the beard is haram based on obligatory precaution, and this
includes the hair that grows on the sides of the face. However, there is no
problem in shaving the hair that grows on the cheeks.

Question: At times the big companies in Europe discriminate-
who come to them seeking jobs-between those who shave their beards
and those who don't shave them. If this is true, then is it permissible to be
clean shaven in order to get the job?
Answer: Shaving the beard-whose prohibition is based on obligatory precaution-
would not become permissible just by the desire to get a job with these companies.

THE DONKEY One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried
piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do.
Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to
be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.
He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all
grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first,
the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then,
to everyone's amazement he quieted down. A few shovel loads
later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished
at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the
donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and
take a step up. As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt
on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up.
Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over
the edge of the well and happily trotted off! Life is going to shovel
dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is
to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a
steppingstone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not
stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.
Remember the five simple rules to be happy: 1. Free your heart
from hatred - Forgive. 2. Free your mind from worries - Most
never happen. 3. Live simply and appreciate what you have.
4. Give more. 5. Expect less NOW --------Be a good Donkey and
send it across to all the donkeys you know.... Think like a
donkey.....does this make sense....If you think 'no'> than
something is wrong with your senses..... :-) You have two choices...

ISTIKHARAH PRAYER
Allaahuma innee astakheeruka bu-ilmika, wa astaqdiruka biqudra-tika, wa as'aluka min fadhlikal -Adheem, fa innaka taqdiru wa laa aqdiru, wa ta'lamu, wa laa a'lamu, wa Anta 'Allaamul Ghuyoobi; Allaahumma in kunta ta 'lamu anna haathal-amra,
sharrun lee fee deenee wa ma'aashee wa 'aaqibati amree — (or say) — 'Aajilihi wa aajilihi. Fasrifhu 'annee wasrinee 'anhu waqdur liyal-khaira haithu kaana thumma ardhinee bihi.
"Oh Allah, I seek the counsel of Your knowledge, and I seek the help of Your omnipotence and I beseech You for Your magnificent grace. Surely You are Capable and I am not. You know and I know not, and You are the Knower of the unseen. Oh Allah, if You know that this matter (then mention the thing to be decided) is good for me in my religion and in my
life and for my welfare in the life to come, — (or say: in this life and the afterlife) — then ordain it for me and make it easy for me, then bless me in it. And if You know that this matter is bad for me in my religion and in my life and for my welfare in the life to come, — (or say: in this life and the afterlife) then distance it from me, and distance me from it, and ordain for me what is good wherever it may be, and help me to be content with it."
(Bukhari Volume 2, Book 21, Number 263)
The Prophet (SAW) taught the way of doing Istikhara (Istikhara means to ask Allah (SWT) to guide one to the right sort of action concerning any job or a deed), in all matters He said, "If anyone of you thinks of making any decision he should offer a two Rakat prayer other than the compulsory ones and recite this dua after the prayer.
