This refers to ur response to raise funds for repair of churches damaged by Muslims in Malaysia due to the court rulling on the use of Allah in referring to their God.
I agree that we should not tolerate destruction of churches by Muslims because of use of the term of Allah by the Christians. The Malaysian Muslims particularly its leaders should be encouraged to mopen dialogue with the non-Muslims on what the Muslims have understood to be the characteristics of Allah which is free from shriq, i.e. associating it with 'fatherhood', 'sonhood', 'holy spirit' etc. and should come to a common understanding whether what they ( the non Muslims) mean by their God ( which they are now, only recently introducing and using the terim of Allah) could bge justified. Has it not created confusion among the Muslims who have been using this terminology especially in Malaysia for centurieis and that the Christian in Malaysia had never used this term as they never considered that there is any relationship or similarity between their religion and Islam. In fact they always refer to Islam as barbaric religion, religion of terror etcc. While Islam recognizes Jesus as a prophet of Islam, and the Christian as the People of the Book, they Christian never have any tehological tolerance or recognition. Pls do not use the history of Christianity in the Midele East as reference, Malaysia has a different history, in Malaysia, Islam is the official religion, where other religions are also allowed and in fact grow. But pls also try to understand the Malaysian context. They never used the term Allah to the their God, which is very different in nature from what Muslims believe as Allah and only now they start using it. For what purpose ??? The court rulling on this matter has created unrest and instability in this otherwise peacful country.
More over, if you also study the situation in Indonesian, some times, the Muslims do attack or demonstrate against construction of chrches because they are built against the Giovernment Act for building of house of worships. The Christians in Indonesia often build churches in the areas where there no or very insignificant no of Christians but bring them by busses or car pools to an intially rented place, such as house or shop in a commercial area and after some times, through bribery they build their house of worships. They have a lot of money from various sources to do influence the policy makers and government officials and this ' forced ' building of churches have created a lot tension. On the other hand, in the districts where there are Christian majority, they want to declare the district as a Christian district, through the local/ district parliament and prohibits Muslims girls from putting oin headscarf, building mosque or saying azan. Such effort is now going on in the district of Manokwari in the Papua Pronvince of Eastern, east Indonesia.
You must also know that your appeals have been used by the Christians groups in Indonesia as support to their programme of promoting their religion. I therefore request you to be very carefull in articulating or taking action on such sensitive issues so as not to harm the position of our Muslims. I do agree that some kind of sympathy is necessary, but you should also review and articulate the matter in a way that also shows understanding on the position of the Muslims. I suggest that CAIR make study on such issues thouroughly before taking action.
