Imam Sadiq (a.s.): There are 4,000 angels at the holy shrine of Imam Husain (a.s.). Their heads are covered with dust and they are wailing and will continue to do so till the Day of Judgment. Their leader is called 'Mansoor'. When a person comes to visit Imam's (a.s.) shrine, all these angels welcome him. Kafi, vol 4, pg 581
Yazeed Ibn Moaviyah – A Branch of the Cursed Tree
The Genealogy of Yazeed: His father's name was Moaviyah and that of his grandfather – Abu Sufyan. His grandmother was Hinda – the one who ate the liver of Hazrat Hamzah (a.s.), the Prophet's (s.a.w.a.) uncle after the battle of Uhud. She was notorious throughout Makkah as being a woman of loose character. She had a string of lovers and paramours. Abu Sufyan's cousin Musafir bin Amr who was famous among the Quraish for his good looks, generosity and skill as a poet, became Hinda's lover. Even after getting married to Abu Sufyan, Hinda did not severe her amorous and illicit relationship with Musafir. And so Musafir is one of the four people that are considered to have possibly sired Moaviyah. (Sharho Nahjil Balagha by Ibne Abil Hadid, Vol. 1, Pg. 30). Yazeed's mother's name was Maisoon binte Bakhdal Kalbi. She was extremely beautiful due to which Moaviyah became inclined towards her. However when she conceived Yazeed, Moaviyah abandoned her. Hence, Yazeed was born in her house where she and many other women of immoral character breast fed him. Yazeed's genealogy and the dirty deeds of his parents and grandparents have been chronicled in details. Abu Sufyan, Hinda the liver eater, Marwan and their cronies were foremost in the enmity towards Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) and Ahle Bait (a.s.). Regarding this topic one can find numerous books of history in Arabic and Persian. Readers of Urdu may refer to "Moaviyah aur Yazeed Taarikh ke Aaeene Mein" by the late Hujjatul Islam Aqae Sheikh Mohammad Ismail Rajabi (r.a). Read more
Exegesis of Z iyarate Naahiyah
(3) "Salutations upon the one, whose soil (dust) is blessed with healing powers." The above sentence infers that Allah the Almighty has decreed the soil, upon which the pure blood of Imam Husain (a.s.) was spilled, to become a cure for every ailment. Our magazine Al-Qaem Al- Munatazar (Muharram Special Issues) has devoted many articles in previous issues to 'the dust with healing powers'. For more details, people should refer to these articles. However, we present just one tradition for the benefit our revered readers. Our seventh Imam, Hazrat Musa Kazim (a.s.) narrates in his will: "…And do not eat anything of the soil of our graves for blessing. Surely, the (eating) of all soils has been prohibited except the dust of (the grave) of our forefather Husain (a.s.). Verily, Allah (s.w.t.) has made it a cure for our Shias and our friends…" (Behaar al-Anwaar, Vol. 58, P. 225, extract of Oyoon -o- Akhbaar Ar-Reza Vol. 1, P. 85). He (a.s.) mentions in another tradition: "Our Shias are never devoid of four possessions: (1) Mat made from date leaves on which he can pray namaz (2) A ring on his finger (3) Miswaak for brushing (4) A rosary made from the dust of Husain (a.s.)'s grave having 33 beads in it. When he turns the beads in Allah's remembrance ( Z ikr), Allah writes forty rewards for every bead. And when he turns them unmindfully, Allah writes for him, twenty rewards." Islamic Practical Laws: Taqleed
Necessity of Taqleed in Islamic practical laws
Taqleed becomes necessary largely due to the average Muslim's inability to comprehend and derive Islamic laws all by himself. Given man's hectic lifestyle, it would take a better part of his lifetime to study the Quran and traditions in order to formulate these laws and statutes. Taqleed, therefore, affords the Muslim a more viable and logical option. However, one thing that must be borne in mind is that this compliance with (the jurist) is for practical tenets (Furu-e-Deen) only and not for one's beliefs.
Taqleed maybe broadly classified under four heads viz.:
(i) The unlearned following another unlearned.
(ii) The learned following the unlearned.
(iii) The learned following another learned.
(iv) The unlearned following a learned. Read more
Controlling the Tongue and Repentance
Mentioned below are some of the demerits of the tongue, if not controlled: 1. Lies Lies and falsehood are some of the most serious crimes committed by the tongue. Allah has castigated the liars in several places in the Quran, and has warned them of a most painful chastisement.
2. Backbiting (Gheebat): This means to discuss the defects and vices of a person in his absence. The Holy Quran has condemned such people, and has compared this despicable action to eating the flesh of one's dead brother. Read more
