Alhumdulillah. Peace and blessings on Muhammad (sallalahu alaihi wa sallam), his Noble Companions and Family. Ma'shara Al Mu'mineen, Brothers and sisters on As Sirat Al Mustaqeem … Audio on http://www.islamiccenterdc.com/khutbassermons.htm (02-05-2010) THIRTY-ONE YEARS OF ISLAMIC REVOLUTION Surah Al Fajr- which was the 10th surah which was revealed from on high was revealed after Surah Al Layl and before Surah Ad Duha- speaks to us about civilizations, power structures (and) modernitys that turned confrontational with Allah. Thamud, Aad and Firaun are three power structures/modernitys/civilizations in their own time frame in the course of human history. Allah is not speaking about individuals. He is focusing our attention on power establishments and powerful institutions in the sequence of human history. It is a pity that we who are reading and vocalizing these ayaat on most of the occasions fail to elevate our thoughts to the standard meanings of these ayaat. Have you not seen or do you not consider what Allah has done to Aad? (Surah Al Fajr verse 6) To put this meaning into perspective and bring it into today's world- Allah is speaking about a superpower in its own time that was known for its scientific/technological/modernistic progress. What happened to it? With all the infrastructure and superstructure people thought that this power structure was invincible it cannot be defeated. That was the common impression; but when it conflicted with Allah, Allah's power eroded and destroyed it. This power structure this powerful establishment had no equivalent/parallel- nothing was like it. (Surah Al Fajr verse 8) And then Allah takes us to another time in history to another powerful civilization and modernity. This is another so called superpower whose technology, research and scientific investigations had them convert and make out of mountains structures that are still prevalent to this day- not their inhabitants, but their physical structures. Where has that civilisation gone? It's been destroyed so thoroughly that it doesn't exist in our living memory. And the Pharaoh- and we know what happened to the Pharaoh and how his power structure was also shredded by Allah. Why is it then that, (if we are reading these ayaat and we should be conscious of their meanings), we fail to take a look at the power structures, establishments and superpowers of our time, generation and century. What happened to the Islamic psychology and mentality that is incapable of learning these power lessons from Qur'anic history? There is something amiss when there is a vacuum in the Muslim public mind and Islamic social behaviour that we cannot live with these ayaat and not only understand the destruction and passing away of previous civilisations; (but) it turns out that we are incapable of looking at a civilization, a power structure and a military superpower that is expiring in front of our own eyes. If Allah has given us the background information so that we can understand current events, why are we unable to place the God-given information brought to us from heaven into the God-created world here on earth. Something is wrong when Muslims are incapable of understanding Allah and His Prophet historically and currently at the same time; which bring us to the real world today. If Allah has spoken to us about Thamud, Aad and Phiraun among other civilisations and power structures and we should learn from this, why can't we come and say "look we have the current equivalent of Aad Thamud and Phiraun in the world today" and you find what is in today's language called Imperialists and Zionist powers. These are the establishments and superpowers of today's world. How come Allah is explaining to us in detail what happens to these types of powers and we cannot open up our eyes to the prevalence and preponderance of these types of powers today? What happened? An Islamic Revolution takes place 31 years ago in the middle of these developments of these superpowers and it breaks lose. We've been living for 31 years with this Islamic success and no one is capable of just speaking about it! What's wrong? You are crippled psychologically, retarded mentally or unable to realise and look at the world as it is?! There are tawaqheet, there are equivalents to Aad, Thamud and Phiraun all around us. First, we can't identify them; and if some of us identify them, we're not supposed to speak about them in public from the Mimbar. And if we are allowed to open up this Qur'anic reference that points to today's establishments and powers, we're supposed to do so in closed meetings, behind closed doors or only among the scholars. No one is supposed to go with this information to the Muslim public or the larger public! That's prohibited! Why? Allah's guidance and the meanings of His words are supposed to become a monopoly amongst a certain class of people?! We are supposed to contain this information behind closed doors?! That is not how we understand who we are. Allah has sent His Prophet to communicate His message to all people. (Surah Al A'raf verse 158) And those who understand these issues with these meanings and can relate them to the contemporary facts of power structures around us- even some of these few are hesitant or they think that they are diplomatically correct to say "oh no we shouldn't go with this information to the public." This is not who we are. Those who communicate Allah's message and stand in awe of Him… (Surah Al Ahzaab verse 39) This awe comes from the taqwa of Allah. If we realise before and after everything that Allah is the Power, the Strength and the All Mighty and it's rooted deep down in our hearts and minds, we can take a look at reality with a free mind/conscience and say "yes we've had an Islamic Revolution that has been in progress for 31years." Anyone have any problems in saying or listening to this? But here we are- incapable of understanding this lesson. It's a simple lesson. We mourn at the psychology and mentality of Muslims who after all of these years don't want to speak about the Islamic achievement/success to their own selves. Who's telling you to give a lecture to a non-Islamic crowd?! Just among our own selves; you can't say this to each other? The extension of this is Hezbollah's success in Lebanon. "Oh don't speak about Hezbollah." (That's another taboo.) How many times you hear the word Hezbollah from the Mimbar? Even those Islamic Centres that identify with the Islamic revolution in Iran or say they are affiliates of the Islamic Revolution in Iran say "what's this talk about Hezbollah?" What do they mean "what is this talk about Hezbollah?!" People are giving their lives. They are fighting an avowed, historical, vicious and viral enemy and we're not supposed to speak about this? Who have we become? No one can be, (in the innocent sense of the word), proud of Islamic accomplishments?! The Islamic Revolution has taken Muslims into the future. Hezbollahis are thinking about entering into the occupied, stolen and usurped Holy Land- this is how they are thinking. Here and in many other places far away Muslims don't even want to mention this in public! A few Muslims can speak about this among themselves, but to give a khutbah about it to draw the meanings of the Qur'an into our life?! "Oh this is something we are not supposed to do." We can't even follow to their success?! They are working as we speak. They may be digging new positions on the frontline. They may be arming themselves. What's wrong? You Muslims have a problem with arming yourselves! We can't speak about defending ourselves! We're supposed to be sitting ducks for a military global machine that is slaughtering us in different geographies of the world?! We can't think and speak about these issues and Hezbollah and those who have lived 31 years of movement forward are planning that next time these Yahudi Zionists open fire, the Muslims will be inside the occupied territories- coming to them from the North and probably coming to them from the East. They want every Muslim who can point to the Islamic success of the last 31 years to feel guilty. Guilty of what? You Muslims who have a debilitated psychology- you want to feel guilty of trying to acquire nuclear technology?! Is it haraam on Muslims to acquire nuclear technology and halaal for the butchers and war criminals to acquire this technology and use it against us? We can't even think offensively?! We always have to be apologetic?! "Excuse us… Oh no, we don't want to do this… You misunderstand us, we want a dialogue of civilization with you." One of the first definitions of a dialogue is you enter into an exchange of ideas with no preconditions and without any arrogance; when one side is superior and the other side is inferior- that's not a dialogue. If we can enter into this discussion on an equal basis/par, we can expect a dialogue but we haven't seen this intention/behaviour from the superstructures and infrastructures of these power mongers in the camps of Imperialism and Zionism. These are also two words that are also taken out of the Islamic lexicon- "oh don't use the word Imperialism and Zionism." That's like saying in the Qur'an "don't mention Phiraun, Thamud and Aad." They were the Imperialists and Zionists of their times; but no, the way the Saudi financed religious establishments and Masaajid around the world take these words out of the khutbahs. They're not supposed to be produced in the khutbahs; and if you use the word Thamud, Aad, Phiraun, Ashaab Al Ayka, As'hab Al Rass and these other civilisations and power structures that have preceded, you're supposed to think about them as a historical narrative (and) a chapter in history that is not to be related to today. This is the separation of the Qur'an from life. This is the discrimination between what Allah has to say to us and what the media has to say to us. Have you not considered how Allah dealt with Aad? (Surah Al Fajr verse 6) Can't we say "can you not consider how Allah dealt with Zionism and Imperialism?" This is in the making. Allah is not going to come down to earth and correct. If that correction means dismantling and destroying the power structures of Zionism and Imperialism, it is going to have to be done by the hands of the subjects of Allah. Who are we? Bani Isra'eel again? Banu Isra'eel said to Musa "Go you and your Lord- you do the fighting, we're staying right here- where we are; we're not budging (Surah Al Maa'idah verse 24) Is this what we want to say? We may not say it by words, but we behave it. "Oh you people who are interested with jihad, sacrifices and struggle- you go do the hard work; you go to the warfront you sacrifice your lives, limb and treasure/wealth; you do that we're staying here. We're not going to do a thing!" We've identified that social character in this long history of scripture and revelation- we're not going to reproduce/re-enact it. Who is saying this? Much more, who is doing this? The Muslims who are the citizenry/constituents of the Islamic Revolution, not those who follow the Saudi line. The Saudis have been talking to the Zionists and the Imperialists for all our lifetime, (for all that we know), where have they gone? What did they accomplish? What right have they given to the Palestinians and the other Muslims who are stateless and dislocated all over the place? Even we, (the Muslims who live in the United States and were born and became naturalised citizens), do you think you have a state? Do you think this government, administration and legal system here considers you on par with the rest of the Americans and the rest of the people here? You only have to open your eyes and look around… but we will never be able to do that if we don't understand what Allah is saying to us. Brothers and sisters, committed Muslims… If the powers that be continue to be absent in our relationship and the vital/practical meanings that are provided to us from Allah, they will continue to score their own victories. Of course, they can't get away with it- at the end it is going to catch up with them, but if we can't take a look at today's world- look at these Zionist Yahudis. They have built a barrier/wall that is about 400 miles long. That's a lot of distance. Think about it for a moment- it's like from here, Washington, to Ohio and they say to a public that doesn't read/understand the Qur'an that this wall is "to protect us from terrorists and suicidal." It appears, as the days and years go by, that this wall is meant to block the wave of Muslims who will come knocking down the Zionist structure from all corners of the world- that wall is not going to be of any benefit to the Zionists when that happens, but they are planning for such an eventuality. Those who speak to you as Ulema'/scholars and don't talk to you about the Israeli military presence in the Gulf between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran- they have military forces there submarines. The Imperialist powers in Washington is reinforcing and trying to give legitimacy to this Zionist pre-act of war. Are we supposed to look the other way when as a follow up to the Zionist building a barrier/wall, the Egyptian government also comes in and tries to complete that. In the meantime, there are millions of Muslims who are affected by that. They don't have the luxury that you and we have. We go home and watch TV and see what is happening around the world. They don't have that luxury. They are the first line victims of the war policies in the making. Why not speak about the Egyptian government?! Allah speaks about Aad, Thamud and Phiraun- the Pharaoh of ancient Egypt is also a Pharaoh of modern Egypt! No one wants to speak about him and what he is doing? His official press is leaking words that "there is an advanced plan by Israelis to attack the Islamic State." Remember, the Israelis are/have been planning for this for a long time and Muslims have become silent about this- especially that regime that is in the Arabian Peninsula that is the lynch pin of these hostile aggressive war-like strategies and policies that are being executed on our watch. We live here, on planet Earth, these are real issues and this regime in Arabia along with its affiliates in the Gulf have introduced a missile system. Have you noticed that they are silent about the number of Mushrik and kaafir forces that are stationed in the homeland of Islam and in the birth place of the Prophet. You try to GOOGLE or go to wherever you can to come up with the number of these anti-Islamic forces that have bases, access, privileges and are above the law and then they come and tell us that the Saudis are applying Shariah. They are applying Shariah to who? To the poor Sudani/Yemeni/Pakistani. That's who Shariah applies to? Shariah doesn't apply to Zionists and Imperialists?! What happened to their Shariah?! They reduced Shariah to some legal paragraphs and lines that they apply to the poor folks and Shariah is incapable of exposing the occupation of Muslims?! Our resources/countries are occupied; we have a common enemy that they have been negotiating with for the past 30 years and what have they done? Nothing! Hezbollah have been fighting. You have been talking, Hezbollah and other committed Muslims have been fighting. We pray and hope by Allah for this combined effort of Muslims, whether they are in an Islamic Iran or a Hezbollahi Lebanon or an Islamic resistance in Palestine or the Muslims in Yemen who are fighting against this Saudi cancerous presence in the body of Muslims. In the past 40 days, some Muslims who are Shi'is, (in the mainstream definition of Tashayu'), have been mourning Imam Hussein (alaihi as salaam), and it has become a cultural occasion to commemorate and celebrate Aashura' and the 40th day after it. About 30 million, (a little more or less) Muslims in Yemen, (depending on who you are reading), had 80 million pieces of arms- whether they are guns, rifles, machine guns, daggers or whatever. That's almost three pieces for every man, woman and child in that country. If this understanding of Islam was to spread all over, then we would have almost two billion Muslims who have almost six billion pieces of arms in our personal possession. They don't want that to happen. What's your comments about governments who don't have confidence in their own people to give them arms? All these territories around occupied Palestine, especially the displaced/dispossessed Palestinians- each one of them should have at least three pieces of arms to protect themselves and to liberate their future. None of that is possible because we have a brain dead Islam presented from Saudi Manabir meaning pulpits around the world that report indirectly or directly to the Saudi pay master. This khutbah was presented by Imam Muhammed Asi on the occasion of Jum'ah on 5 February 2010 on the sidewalk of Embassy Road in Washington D.C. The Imam previously led the daily and Jum'ah prayers inside the Masjid. His speeches were revolutionary and thought provoking, and eventually irritated and threatened the Middle-East Ambassadors who control the Masjid. Finally, the Imam, his family, and other Muslims faithful to the course of Islam were forced out, into the streets. This khutbah originates from the sidewalk across the street from the Islamic Center, currently under seige. |
