[MahdiUniteMuslims] 12th Annual Tajdeed Message

S/a.

This is the 12th year in which we have sent out practical lessons derived from the sacrifice of the beloved grandson of the Prophet (sawa) at the grounds of Karbala in 61 AH (1370 years ago). Since the purpose of the Imam was to revive the religion of his grandfather, the Prophet of Allah, we will hereforth call our annual sends "Tajdeed Messages". For this year, it will be based on the hadith narrated by Imam Husain (as):

Oh people, the Messenger of God said: "Whoever sees an aggressive tyrant that legalizes the forbiddens of God, breeches divine laws, opposes the tradition of the Prophet, oppresses the worshipers of God, and does not concede his opposition to God in word or in deed, surely Allah will place that tyrant (in the Hell) where he deserves to be" (ref: Maqtal Khwarazmi).

We notice that the Imam (as) campaigned along the lines of this hadith not only by teaching its theory, but also practically manifesting it in his tajdeed (revivalist) movement of opposition to oppression, until he was given the ultimatum to submit or face death, and he chose the obvious - sacrifice. What we can derive from his platform can be gauged from the hadith itself:

1. Opposition to oppressive tyrants
2. Opposition to the legalizing of that which is forbidden to God
3. Opposition to Breaching of Divine Decrees (such as set out in the Quran)
4. Opposition to eroding the Sunnah of the Prophet (sawa)
5. Striving for freedom of the Muslims (worshipers of God) from Suppression
6. Giving oppressors a chance to relent, but to oppose them if they do not

Furthermore, we need to remind ourselves that the evil of oppression is not an exclusively foreign entity. Oppression is common even in Muslim lands, and it was common even in Imam Husain's (as) time wherein not only the Holy Family of the Prophet (sawa) was ruthlessly murdered, but also the people of the holy cities of Medina and Makkah were brutally ravaged when they opposed the oppressive policies of tyrants. In our own time, we need to first look at ourselves and identify if we have oppressed anyone? and if so, to make amends for it. Have we laid unjust and unfair claims and conditions upon others? And have we acted appropriately with oppressors by giving them a chance to relent before opposing them?

A second point to note is that any opposition that violates the norms of justice, itself becomes an oppression. Islam outlines the guidelines in Quran of interaction with hostile people by warning that let not the hatred of another lead you to injustice, nor should the love of your near ones prevent you from executing justice. Hence Islam is constricted from (1) Those anti-Muslims who are openly hostile to the Muslims (2) Muslims who are hostile to their fellow Muslims (such as in oppressive governments or impositional militant movements) & (3) Those Muslims who react in similar (unfair) hostile manner to others when they are oppressed (oppression for oppression).

Supplementary Lessons to learn:

1. Man must not submit to oppression, even though it may require deep sacrifice
2. Man must not excite oneself in opposition without a fair chance for an oppressor to relent
3. When Man opposes oppression, the opposition itself must be in a just manner without violating anyone's rights

With this we pray that may Allah (swt) protect us, and induce into us the aspects of justice, sacrifice, fairness, uprightness, morality, mutual respect with others, non-aggression, peace, security, and care and concern for those who are being oppressed.

In the manner of Islam - With Peace (Ma'a Salaama)
May God bless you,
S.A.H.A.N.
