Article: The Supererogatory Prayer After the Jumu'ah Prayer
Thursday, 06 May 2010 | |||||
By Sheikh Yahyaa bin 'Alee al-Hajooree I say (the author): This last opinion is the most preferable of the aforementioned views in combining between the two hadeeths. al-Imaam Ibnul-Qayyim has prefered this (last) view in Zaad al-Ma'aad (1/440). He said, 'And when he, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, would pray the Jumu'ah prayer he used to enter his house and pray two sunnah rak'ahs. And he ordered the one who prayed it (i.e. Jumu'ah) to pray four after it.'
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Merciful... It has been collected by al-Bukhaaree (1165) and Muslim (729), may Allaah have mercy upon them both, from the hadeeth reported by Ibn 'Umar, may Allaah be pleased with them both, that he said, "I prayed with the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, two rak'ah before Dhuhr, two after Dhuhr, two after Jumu'ah, two after Maghrib and two after 'Ishaa'". And it has been collected by Imaam Muslim (881) from the hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah, may Allaah be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, said, "When one of you prays the Jumu'ah prayer, let him pray four (rak'ahs) after it." And it has been collected by Imaam Muslim (882) from the hadeeth of 'Abdullaah ibn 'Umar, may Allaah be pleased with them both, that the Prophet, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, would not pray after the Jumu'ah prayer until he departed (from the masjid) then he would pray two rak'ah in his home. How did the scholars combine between these hadeeths? What conclusion did they reach? Click view this item to find out.
