Notice how Americans are realizing the problems facing their society and realize the exponential growth in societies problems. The Quran has predicted this in multiple places:
Surah Takathur Ayah 1: "Piling of more wealth has kept you heedless."
Sura Hadid Ayah 20: "Know that the life of the world is only play, and idle talk, and pageantry, and boasting among you, and rivalry in respect of wealth and children..."
In addition, Muawiya once pointed out: "The good of our times were the sins of the previous times. And what we consider as wrong today will be considered good in the time that is to come."

Notice how the Quran and Sahaba knew of the problems that were to come as Qiyamat neared. Look at its solutions clearly given to us:
Surah Ra'ad Ayah 28: "Those who believe and whose hearts find satisfaction in the remembrance of Allah: for without doubt in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find satisfaction.
The prophet (PBUH) once said to Abu Dharr: "Wealth in essence is the contentment of the heart. The one who has contentment in his heart, no amount of calamities will harm or depress this man."
Let us ponder over the wisdom of our own Deen. Notice how depression and the drive for material goods has corrupted society, yet many of the inhabitants of the world do not understand the clear and simple answer. Allah (SWT) has not kept in the capacity of this world the ability to satisfy the human heart, only our Taqwa can.
