| Salam Alaikum, Question: Is it permissible to shave the two sides of the face and leave the hair on the chin? Answer: Shaving the beard is haram based on obligatory precaution, and this includes the hair that grows on the sides of the face. However, there is no problem in shaving the hair that grows on the cheeks. (sistani.org) It is observed that although shaving of Beard is haraam but we still do it although our Prophets(A.S) and Imam(A.S) have highly recommended it to us. I feel sorry to say this but but The Sikh community takes us over in this matter. Once a Sikh was asked to shave his beard for a certain job else he would have to opt for some other job, but he refused straight away on further coaxing him he said if this is the case then " Even the Prime Minister Of India Dr. Manmohan Singh Has a beard ". I wish we were that determined .
