Brothers and Sisters, Committed Muslims… Audio on http://www.islamiccenterdc.com/khutbassermons.htm (04-02-2010) INTERFAITH MEETINGS: THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER (PART 2) This week, (in this society), is something like a religious week. Those who belong to the Jewish faith observe Passover and those who belong to the Christian faith observe Easter. We have on previous occasions in khutbahs in the past spoken somewhat of the theological truth about these matters. Allah has provided us with the final word on Bani Isra'eel when they were in the company of Musa (alaihi salaam) as he left Egypt. Allah also provided us with the accurate information about what is called the crucifixion. We know as a matter of certainty/beyond an argument/a shadow of a doubt that Isa (alaihi salaam) was not crucified. There's no give-and-take on this matter. That being said though, there are many Muslims in today's world who gear up and want to engage Al Yahud and An Nasara in interfaith activities. Their approach to these activities cannot satisfy the standards/tenets that come to us from Allah and His Messenger. Brothers and sisters, committed Muslims- before we enter into the core of this khutbah… Muslims who receive words and meanings from Allah are always in a confident position. When you begin to watch Muslims arguing/apologizing/raising their voice/bending their bodies in front of Al Yahud and An Nasara, you know something is wrong. These types of Muslims don't have the confidence to speak the way confident people speak. We should never lose sight of the fact that Allah's Prophet (is ours/every Muslims reference point) came in contact with Al Yahud and An Nasara. The first issue today's eager interfaith Muslims want to remind us of is that the Prophet had a meeting with the Christian delegation that came from Najran and visited him in Al Madinah. Then, they wax eloquent on some of the words that were expressed by both sides. But no-one, (as far as yours humanly is concerned), has emphasized the fact that the contact by the Christians from Najran and the Prophet was in a larger context of things. There were many other dynamics at work. The Prophet had spent over 13 years of opposition in Makkah and then he was forced under the threat "we will kill you" to leave Makkah to Al Madinah. And he left. Then, years later this delegation from Najran came to have a discussion/dialogue with him. He was not obsessed with having an interfaith conference and he was not as reactionary to say "I don't want to see these people." So, what was his concern at the time? His concern at that time/in the years before/after it was to free Makkah from the Mushrikeen. He was working on that. That was his objective/main concern/effort of his life. In the course of this effort to cleanse Makkah of it's Mushrikeen we had this Najran chapter in history. During his effort to liberate Makkah, we also had the Yahudi contact with Allah's Prophet in Al Madinah itself. With all the influence/lobby power of Yahud in Al Madinah, their previous connections with the Aws and Khazraj, their finances and their status of People of Scripture/ the religious authorities that they presented themselves to be, the Prophet and Allah's Book were concerned with them in as far as they came in contact with the major effort/target of Allah's Prophet i.e. the liberation of Makkah. But in today's world, these people who have Islamic programs/conferences/books/lectures don't want us to consolidate this Prophetic effort to put all of these pieces/details together to understand its context. "Oh no, you can't do that. Haramun alaykum." OK- we understand where they're coming from, but are we supposed to be "putty in their hands?" They can do with us whatever they want to do?! Is that where we are supposed to be!? Listen- brothers and sisters, committed Muslims- let's take a look at how Allah's Prophet interacted with Yahud who are now occupying our minds, stealing our attention and thieves in our Holy Lands. There is a Surah in the Qur'an that we recommend you try to read as much as you can. It's not a long Surah. It's the 59th Surah in the Qur'an called Surah Al Hashr. Another name for it, (that you're not going to find in your latest print of the Holy Qur'an), is called Surah Bani An Nadhir. (Do) you know: when you begin to gain information about the Qur'an, you will begin to find (that) a certain vocabulary/choice of words have lost momentum with we, the Muslims, throughout the past centuries. Surah Al Isra' is called Surah Bani Isra'eel. Surah Al Hashr is called Bani An Nadhir. Surah At Tawbah is called Surah Al Faadhiha; but Al Faadhiha, Bani Isra'eel and Bani An Nadhir are no longer common designations of these Surahs the way they used to be. So something happened! Did our historical memory selectively omit these words from usage or what happened? Why are we not using these words any longer? That's another issue to be dealt with. But in Al Madinah, there were three communities of Al Yahud: Banu Qaynuqa', Banu An Nadhir and Banu Quraydha. An Nadhir and Quraydha were cousins. Some of the history books tell us that they located/relocated themselves in Yathrib, (before it became Al Madinah), because they were not accepted by their own Yahudi coreligionists in Palestine, in the area of Jericho/Areeha. How does this history pan out? We are told that before Musa passed on, he tasked the forefathers of An Nadhir and Quraydha, (i.e. their great-great-great-grandfathers all the way back), to take on Al Amaleek/Amalekites. These were rough/robust people in the vicinity of the Holy Land. Then, Musa dies and they failed in their military mission. Yahud failed when Musa assigned them a military responsibility. So, when Musa died they came back and wanted to resettle where their other Yahudi counter parts are i.e. in the area of Areeha/Jericho or what is today called the West Bank of Palestine. These Yahud that were living there said "we don't want you to live with us." These are Yahud speaking to Yahud. So they left and settled in the area of Yathrib. They are considered to be the descendants of Harun and are called in Jewish literature Cohens and in Arabic literature they are called Al Kahinaan. An Nadhir and Quraydha are called the two Cohens/Al Kahinaan. When the Prophet of Allah went to Al Madinah, these Yahud were there, but did he try to play up their pedigree and say "look- you are children of Aron. You are related to Musa." It had nothing to do with their relationship/blood lineage and all of this other stuff that they have worked into their own religion. The Prophet went to Al Madinah to liberate Makkah. As far as this concentration of effort is concerned, Yahud are co-incidental. The Prophet was not thinking night and day of Yahud. He had, (so to speak), "a larger fish to fry" and these are the Mushrikun in Makkah. He left Makkah because of the Mushrikin. He was forced to live in Al Madinah because of the Mushrikin. So Banu An Nadhir in the on going interaction with Allah's Prophet, (as anyone in this world who is concerned with power), were thinking is this Prophet going to survive? Is he going to be successful? So, they were watching him very closely. At the Battle of Badr, when the Muslims scored a military victory, they came to Allah's Prophet and gave him the impression that they wanted to help out as much as they can because now, they were looking at a winner. Of course, they can say whatever they want to say but their actions left a lot to be desired. Then, the Battle of Uhud came and in the same way as before, they were watching how are the winds of power are going to blow. They looked and saw that the Prophet and the Muslims did not win like they won in Badr, so they began thinking along treacherous lines. Ka'ab ibn Al Ashraf the headhuntial of Bani An Nadhir goes to Makkah to have a military understanding with the Mushrikeen of Makkah and he takes with him 40 prominent figures from An Nadhir. The Prophet of Allah knows all of this. So what happens? What do the history books tells us happens after this? When this Yahudi pro-Mushrik citizen of Islamic Al Madinah wants to forge a military alliance with the Mushrikin of Makkah against the Islamic State of Al Madinah the Prophet of Allah doesn't wait until that alliance bares its outcome. No! He gives the responsibility to a Muslim by the name of Muhammad ibn Muslimah (radi Allahu anhu) and tells him, (in today's language), this person has to go. In one of the details of history, this Muhammad ibn Muslimah who was assigned by the Prophet to take out this Yahudi/betraying Ka'ab ibn Al Ashraf and he did… (Pause with us for a moment here…) The Prophet of Allah gives the responsibility to an obedient Muslim to knock out a person who was trying to put together a military alliance between the Mushrikeen in Makkah and Yahud and the Munafiqeen in Al Madinah. If we compare those times with today… Today there are people who are trying to put together forces/communities inside Muslim territories, (let's call it that), with the Mushrik powers of the world. Should we be more specific? Today, the Mushrik powers of the world are represented by two words: the Zionists and the Imperialists and they have their contingents/clients in the Arabian geography of the world. You don't think that they are Zionists today who are welding the powers of shirk in this world with the equivalents of the Munafiqeen of Al Madinah and Al Yahud in Al Madinah? This is an ongoing fact of life. It was a fact then, as it is a fact now; but, as clear as this was to Allah's Prophet and the committed Muslims with him, in today's world, (we ask) "who can see this clearly?" In Allah's Prophet's time, that person who was shuffling between Makkah and Al Madinah was known. He couldn't hide himself, but in today's world do we know who the equivalents of Ka'ab ibn Al Ashraf are? If we don't, then we have to ask ourselves why? Why can something be so clear to Allah's Prophet at that time and in our time and age we can't see it? If we can't see it, than there is something wrong with the way we perceive things! What happens in the 4th year in the hijrah when Ka'ab ibn Al Ashraf goes to Makkah and tries to put together this alliance and then he is exposed? What happens to his clan/community Bani An Nadhir in Al Madinah? What do we do? Do we say "oh we are Muslims and you are the descendants of Harun and Musa and we are cousins and we have to live together and be together…" and all of these other stuff that we hear today or we treat them equivalent to what they are planning/doing against us? The Prophet of Allah treated them with reciprocity. They intended war to kill Muslims therefore we intend penalties to annihilate that warfare. So Bani An Nadhir were told for every three families you have a camel. Whatever you can put on it and you leave. They were banished from Al Madinah because they committed treason. Remember, these Yahud were not occupying Al Madinah. In today's world we have Yahud who are occupying Al Quds and the Holy Land. There's a magnitude of difference between Yahud then and Yahud today and the response from the committed Muslims at that time was stern/strong/severe but look at the response of today's world of Muslims! What is their response to the Zionists who occupy and kill without any qualms/twintch in their conscience. They kill Muslims if Muslims dare say "this land belongs to us. We have rights just like all other human beings in this world." What happened? Something happened here. If you compare the Muslims during the time of Allah's Prophet and the Muslims today, you will find that there is a big noticeable discrepancy and this is due to the fact that we simply have lost the meanings that come to us from Allah and His Prophet. Listen to this ayah from Surah Al Hashr/Bani An Nadhir- the 59th surah of the Qur'an. It is He, (in reference to Allah), who has banished the kafirs from Ahl Al Kitab… (Surah Bani An Nadhir verse 1) This is the words of the Qur'an and you listen to these people today who want to have these interfaith meetings/conferences/dialogue- the cumulative/loaded word for it is "the dialogue of civilisations." Do they have the backbone to say those who deny Allah's Power and Authority from these People of Scripture i.e. these Yahud and these Nasara- in this case these Yahud? Listen to Allah's words, He is saying to us the Muslims 1,400 years ago in Al Madinah … you, (the Muslims), didn't think that they will be expelled or you couldn't believe that they would be banished or that they would go… (Surah Bani An Nadhir verse 1) And listen to this … and they, (these kuffar from Ahl Al Kitab/Yahud in Al Madinah), thought that they would be protected by their fortifications… (Surah Bani An Nadhir verse 1) You see, Allah did not maa dhannu annahum lan yakhruju; listen very carefully. The ayah says … you, the Committed Muslims, thought that they would never ever be budged out of Al Madinah and they, (these Quraydha/other Yahud), thought that they are well fortified/protected and living in security and therefore they cannot be exiled from Al Madinah, then Allah approaches them from a direction that wasn't on their mind and He throws terror in their hearts… (Surah Bani An Nadhir verse 1) You see- when Al Yahud when were in Al Madinah, they were relying on the Arabian social-economic-power and all the structures that the Arabians had. The other ayah that comes later on, the 11th ayah in the same surah says- listen to these words- Can you not see the Munafiqeen who are saying to their brothers, the kafireen from People of Scripture "if you are forced to leave Al Madinah, we will leave with you… (Surah Bani An Nadhir verse 11) 1,400 years ago, Al Munafiqeen said to Al Yahud … if you are expelled from Al Madinah we will go with you and we will not take orders from anyone when it comes to our affairs with you... (Surah Bani An Nadhir verse 11) These are the Munafiqeen speaking to the kafirs of Ahl Al Kitab … and if there is a war waged against you, we will come to support you; and Allah bears witness that these Munafiqeen are liars. (Surah Bani An Nadhir verse 11) But this is how Al Yahud were entrenched in Al Madinah because they relied so much on their connections/clout/communication with the Arabian Mushriks. Isn't that exactly what we have today? The Zionists in Occupied Palestine… The ayah says … they think that their fortificationa are going to save/secure them… (Surah Bani An Nadhir verse 1) Another ayah says these Yahud in Al Madinah and extended today in the occupied Holy Land … they will not fight you expect from behind a wall… (Surah Bani An Nadhir verse 14) Their walls were known at that time. In Al Madinah, they had six fortresses. This is not common knowledge in today's Muslim mind. Who is it that can tell/give you one name of the fortresses that these Yahud had in Yathrib? Today, Al Yahud in the Holy Land have built a 400 mile long wall. Listen to Allah's ayah then and today. Another qira'ah… the singular and the plural… They will not fight against you except from behind a wall or from behind walls… (Surah Bani An Nadhir verse 14) On the 15th of March, these Yahud took the first step in building a Synagogue at a close range from Al Masjid Al Aqsa and that Synagogue is literally called "The Synagogue of Ruin." Is this coincidental that Allah says in this ayah in Surah Bani An Nadhir … take notice those of you who have an insight to these types of affairs/this particular issue. … (Surah Bani An Nadhir verse 1) Dear committed Muslims… If we were conscious/aware of our extended history that goes back to the time of Musa/Isa/Muhammad and if we are aware of the realities of today's world, we would find the following: Today's Israelis have become the Pharaohs of the time of Musa. We don't subscribe to this blood argument that "they are descendants to…" for one moment. We measure people by their character and what they do. We don't measure then by their blood count of the number of cells in their bodies- that has no meaning! If we wanted to take character, the character of today's Zionists belong to the camp of the Pharoah and the character of today's Palestinians belong in the camp of Musa; to which Allah says We want to favor those who have been disenfranchised, dispossessed of power or who are powerless in the World and We want to render and make of them- through their own efforts- … leaders and inheritors when they are involved. (Surah Al Qassas verse 4) If we take a look at those who say "they are followers of Jesus today", they are on the side of the Sanhedrin and the Roman Empire at that time. They are not going to fool us by having some Churches here and there! We know these words are strong, but we have to look at the facts and we can't go on in this institutionalised misreading of history and current events/affairs. Enough of it! Then, if we take today's Muslims and at what was happening at the time of Allah's Prophet, (we say this with a heavy heart), many of the Muslim's today are in the ranks of Abi Jahl, Abi Lahb, the Mushrikeen of Makkah, the enemies of Allah's Prophet and of Allah. If we can see the world in this light, then we are looking at reality with the light of Allah. There will come a day when we break out of these superficial/smothering classifications and we will proceed with the mission that Allah's Prophet had and that is to liberate Makkah. This is a task that awaits its champions and as we are involved in that major task of liberating Makkah, then we may have a Christian delegation come within the details of that effort. We may have the conniving/treachery of Yahud working against us while we are pre-occupied with that major effort. In light of that, we will deal with those who approach us for a dialogue or those who approach us for death, but we should never lose sight of the fact that we are moving year-after-year and from one area to the next to echo what those Muslims said at that time on their way to Makkah, taking down the interference of Yahud ALLAHU AKBAR- KHARIBAT KHAYBAR. Khaybar is disintegrating. Khaybar will be destroyed. For if we approach a crowd that has been warned by us, the results shall be ruinous for them This khutbah was presented by Imam Muhammed Asi on the occasion of Jum'ah on 2 April 2010 on the sidewalk of Embassy Road in Washington D.C. The Imam previously led the daily and Jum'ah prayers inside the Masjid. His speeches were revolutionary and thought provoking, and eventually irritated and threatened the Middle-East Ambassadors who control the Masjid. Finally, the Imam, his family, and other Muslims faithful to the course of Islam were forced out, into the streets. This khutbah originates from the sidewalk across the street from the Islamic Center, currently under seige. |
