EID AL ADHA
We say the word Allahu Akbar so much that many of us have lost its meaning in context. On this day millions of people, hundreds of millions of Muslims re-iterate and emphasise the words Allahu Akbar.
… so that you may magnify and amplify Allah for His guidance to you… (Surah Al Baqarah verse 185)
… and magnify your Lord (Surah Isra' verse 111)
Ayaat from Allah's communication to us that we not only say with out tongues but that we express with our conscious being this meaning. We know some brothers and some sisters may find this quite elementary but we know that many brothers and sisters need to know this. When we say Allahu Akbar in the Hajj, or when we say Allahu Akbar on Fridays or when we say Allahu Akbar during the two Eids of the year or when we say Allahu Akbar during out five communication times during the day what we are saying is Allah is greater than… That's what Allahu Akbar means and we stop there. We don't say or we don't express words (of) who Allah is greater than! Allah is greater than who? The answer to this comes today on our Eids. We say Allahu Akbar kabeera wa Alhamdulillahi katheera wa subhanAllahi bukratan wa asila. Laa Ilaha illaAllahu wahdah, sadaqa wa'dah, wa nasara abdah, wa a'azza jundah wa hazama al ahzaab wahdah. Acknowledging this fact and if this fact permeates our hearts and our minds we follow that by saying whatever the consequences of this God-given statement of Allahu Akbar is. And thanks are due to Allah and abundant appreciation is His whatever the consequences- remember that. And we praise Allah at the beginning of the day and at the diminishing time of the day. We are still in these sentences refining the meaning of Allahu Akbar. Then we go on to say there is no Deity and Authority besides Allah. If we were to understand this in today's world, this is a subversive statement. We are saying that we don't recognise any deities and we don't recognise any authorities except Allah. The secular people would turn on us and say "do you know what you are saying?" The reason they are not paying much attention to many of us is because many of us don't know what we are saying! But when we understand and are conscious of what we are saying then they take note of this. He is true to His promise. What is Allah's promise? Remember, here we are on an elevated level of understanding. Let us backtrack just a moment… If a Muslim in his full mind and in his healthy heart says Allahu Akbar, Allah is greater than; is this a comparison or a contrast that Allah is greater than, (let's say), a mosquito or an ant? Is this what we mean by saying Allahu Akbar or are there significant challengers, intruders, significant powers and significant authorities to which we are saying Allahu Akbar? Its only common sense that when we say Allahu Akbar we are re-iterating and underscoring the fact that Allah is greater than those who want to impose their "greatness" on us in the form of powers and in the other form of government and authorities. So we are saying to this form of life Allahu Akbar. Further explanation Allahu Akbar- two words that many Muslims say mindlessly (and) without thinking. What is Allah is true to His promise? Allah will fulfil His promise. Allah will verify His promise. What is Allah's promise?
Allah has promised those of you who are committed to Him and you do what is right or you do what comes from that commitment to Him then He will indeed cause you to inherit the earth… (Surah An Nur verse 55)
What is there to inherit in the affairs of the world? If you have a family you have an inheritance. Is this what Allah is saying or talking about? Or He's speaking about two issues- the issue of authority and power? You will inherit the power and authority of the earth. That's His promise but His promise is not going to be fulfilled if you don't understand what He's promising you! This is contingent upon your understanding this and they've taken away this understanding and we helped them take away this understanding and therefore when we perform the Hajj today and in these years, we do it without this understanding. We say Allahu Akbar, we say Allah is true to His promise. We say He has given victory to His subject- to His Prophet and those who are in the character and in the conduct of His Prophet. Why is Allah speaking about victory and support, triumph and help? Because these words are related to us by Allah's Prophet. When we say these sentences and these statements on the day of Eid we didn't invent them. We didn't invent them. They came to us from Allah and His Prophet so Allah and His Prophet want us to be conscious of these meanings. And He says He has given victory to His subject. Some people will say "you're interjecting politics or you're interjecting things that are alien to religion into Islam." We're not interjecting anything. We are taking these Islamic words (and) these Islamic meanings that are repeated by hundreds and millions and even billions of Muslims in this world. We're just thinking about what they mean. Don't tell us that that statement belongs in the past! Allah has given izzah to His troops. (Do you) see what we are saying on this day? But the problem is there are governments, power structures (and) authority establishments in this world that don't want us to understand this. As long as we don't understand "let the Muslims go to their Mosques (and) let them absentmindedly repeat these statements but don't let them think about their meanings." This is the crucial and the critical and the dangerous element- if we begin to think about what we are saying. Why are we speaking about Allah's soldiers or those who are enlisted in Allah's jihad and in Allah's struggle? Why are we talking about that? We don't know. We didn't bring this statement to you, no average individual has brought this statement to us; this came to us by Allah through His Prophet. (Do) you see the verbs here? Allah is true to His promise, He has given victory to His subject, He has given izzah to His troops. Then finally and He defeated the allied or the confederate forces by Himself. Look at these meanings- when you defeat someone. This is what we are saying on this day. This is what the millions of Muslims are echoing in Makkah. The problem is they've taken our political mind out of our political scripture- that's what happened. This took a lot of time but this is where we are now so when we say Allahu Akbar we should say it standing on the rubble of ignorance deep beneath our feet and behind our backs moving forward. This is what happens- brothers and sisters- in the managed Hajj that is performed today. No one wants you and me and the rest who go for Hajj or those who can go to Hajj or for those who are permitted by an establishment in Arabia that has its legitimacy in Washington
Allah has declared and so has His Prophet a disavowal or a severance of relationship between the committed Muslims and the Mushriks. (Surah At Tawbah verse 1)
Can we get this straight? O Allah- Open up our hearts and open up our minds to have us at least understand what we say when we are in the process of conforming to you on the day of Jum'ah, on the day of Eid (and) on every day of the year.
Dear brothers and sisters…
Allah is great, Allah is more significant, Allah is more significant, Allah is more powerful, Allah is more authoritative than all of these competitors, whoever and whatever the face they have. With, (excuse our bluntness), the slave performance of the Hajj they tell us, (these are their numbers), "three and a half million people went to perform the Hajj." They also tell us "one point seven million of them came from outside Saudi Arabia Arabia and all of the rest of the half of the other Muslims who went for the Hajj were from everywhere else in the world. You tell us- brothers and sisters- is this a fair Hajj? They tell us "this year the number of those who came from outside of Arabia to perform the Hajj were four percent less than last year." We have a growing Islamic momentum and the numbers that come to us from the Hajj indicate that this momentum is not going on par and with the same velocity as the growth of the Islamic momentum outside Arabia ! Something has to be done but nothing can be done if we continue to close and shutter our minds. We say Allahu Akbar in these circumstances where and when they have gone into high gear trying to divide the Muslims. Everyone of you know about these issues of division that we're talking about and we say to their plans and their schemes Allahu Akbar. We know that in today's world some Muslims are waking up and they realise what is happening and with this in mind we say to all of them, whoever they are Allahu Akbar. We mean it and we know what we speaking about. This is not something ideological or something idealistic. It is the truth that will dawn on these people who work their plans in the dark behind close doors with information becoming their monopoly. We thank Allah that He has given us enough information to see through their opaque plans and plots. We know the challenge that faces us but we also know that we are with Allah and Allah is with us and when both of us are together- Allah and we- then there's no other power and no other government in this world that can stand in the way of this conformity to Allah that we say on this day in a humble spirit and in a meek spirit that we are the fulfilment of the promise of Allah that is pending- whether this develops in our life or whether it develops in the years beyond our life is a divine affair, it's not our affair.
Brothers and sisters, with all the pressures and with all the burdens and with all the irritants that have been imposed into our personal and our public lives, remember this day is an Eid in which you owe your smiles and your happiness and your heartfelt feelings to those who are around you, to your friends, to your neighbours, to your extended family- to your ideological family and to your biological family. Be as forthcoming as you can to them with the goodness in your heart and with the clarity in your conscience and with the information in your mind. Be as generous to them on this day for Allah's compensation for that is numberless and it is endless.
Kullu aamin wa antum bi khayr. Eid sa'eed to you here and to you who are listening wherever you may be.
