Imam Mohammad Baqir (a.s.) said, "Allah will not accept the excuse of anyone who claims – O Lord I did not know that the sons of Fatima were the guardians of all the people. Concerning the Shias of the sons of Fatima, Allah has revealed this Quranic verse specifically – 'Say: O My servants! Who have acted extravagantly against their own souls, do not despair of the mercy of Allah; surely Allah forgives the faults altogether; surely He is the Forgiving the Merciful."
